SIDING PLANNING GUIDE

Partial Replacement or a Complete Re-side?

The right scope balances the condition of the existing exterior, water management, appearance, and your longer-term plans.

Map the areas that need attention

Identify affected elevations, recurring repair locations, soft trim, and places where moisture may enter. A partial project can make sense when the rest of the siding is sound and the profile can be matched.

Plan for the wall beneath

A re-side usually involves more than installing new boards. The written scope should address removal, inspection, any needed substrate work, water-resistive barrier, flashing, trim, clearances, and finish details appropriate to the property and local requirements.

Compare proposals by scope

Ask each bidder to spell out material selection, affected area, exclusions, disposal, painting or factory finish, access, and how concealed damage will be priced. This makes a lower number easier to interpret.

Questions to consider

Will new siding match old siding?

Profiles, texture, and color can vary, especially when existing finishes have weathered. Discuss sample and finish expectations before work begins.

Can a commercial building be quoted?

Yes. Include building type, elevations, access restrictions, occupied areas, and timing in the request.
